Series: What Does the Road to Dakar Really Cost?
Expanded on 6 October 2026. All dates and price comparisons refer to the 2026 season. Expired rates are historical comparison values; they are not current booking offers.
The road to rally sport does not necessarily begin with an expensive desert trip. A one-day orientation ride, a navigation course and a marathon rally teach different skills – and cost completely different amounts. That is why we are now comparing 16 events, from the Blue Day Rally to the RoRallyMarathon, as well as the supported Ténéré package for the Addax Rally.
The central question is: Which event suits your riding ability, the time available and your learning goal? Only then can you decide whether a low entry fee is also a low-cost next step towards Dakar.

How the Comparison Is Sorted
The following five levels are an editorial assessment, not an official or standardised difficulty rating. They are based on organiser information on terrain, navigation, daily distances, timekeeping and marathon format. Weather, route variant, motorcycle weight and your own pace change the actual demands considerably. “Entry” here means entry to roadbook riding, not learning to ride a motorcycle.
Events are sorted first by level of difficulty and, within each level, by advertised event duration; where durations are equal, similar formats are grouped together. Pure riding days, prologue, scrutineering and travel are listed separately where documented. The characteristic distinguishes tour, training, competition and navigation raid. Prices apply to the stated motorcycle class and are not full travel costs.
Level 1: Roadbook Entry and Manageable Tours
| Event | Characteristics and difficulty | Duration and date 2026 | Price for motorcyclists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue Day Rally, Germany | Orientation ride: 200 km Saxony Cup for beginners or a more demanding 270 km; tarmac and legal unpaved tracks, not a rally raid speed race. | 1 day · 12.09. | €59. Source |
| Roadbooktour Mecklenburg, Germany | Tour: moderately demanding enduro touring with an introduction; sandy sections require solid basic riding skills. | 4 programme days / 3 riding days · 30.04.–03.05., 02.–05.07. or 01.–04.10. | €690; rental bike +€330. Source |
Level 2: Build-Up, Navigation and Multi-Day Off-Road Riding
| Event | Characteristics and difficulty | Duration and date 2026 | Price for motorcyclists |
|---|---|---|---|
| EutichesBook Alcañiz OffRoad, Spain | Non-competitive roadbook tour; more than 600 km in the two-day version. The distance demands fitness. | 3 event days / 1 or 2 riding days · 16.–18.10. | €125 / 1 riding day; €165 / 2 riding days; paper roadbook +€10. Source |
| Swank Rally di Sardegna – Experience, Italy | Tourist category with roadbook or GPX; simplified alternatives and shortcuts. Difficulty rises with the chosen route. | 5 days · 29.09.–03.10.; programme with prologue and 4 stages | €1,500 / €1,700 / €1,990 depending on booking phase; check package details. Source |
| Bosnia Rally, Bosnia and Herzegovina | Navigation training without timekeeping; expressly for advanced enduro riders. Roadbook or GPS, alternative ADV route. | 7 event days / 5 stages · 12.–18.07. | €820 early bird / €920 regular; accommodation extra. Source |
Level 3: Sporting Entry and Compact Competition
| Event | Characteristics and difficulty | Duration and date 2026 | Price for motorcyclists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Baja Europe, Poland | Compact race on sandy, rutted and wooded tracks; a short event duration does not mean easy terrain. | 3 days · 14.–16.05.; prologue + 2 rally stages | €550 standard rate; meals and hotel extra. Source |
| Swank Rally di Sardegna – Rally, Italy | Competition with timekeeping in selective sections and compulsory roadbook; to be distinguished from the tourist Experience offer. | 5 days · 29.09.–03.10.; prologue + 4 stages | €1,500 / €1,700 / €1,990; transponder +€70, deposit €200. Source |

| Sandalion Rally, Italy | Sporting roadbook competition; announced with a marathon stage and a timed night stage. At the upper end of this level. | 6 programme days / 5 race days · 12.–17.10.; race start 13.10. | €1,400 until 31.08. / €1,500 until 10.10.; compulsory tracking +€200. Source |
Level 4: Demanding Rally Weeks and Desert Formats
| Event | Characteristics and difficulty | Duration and date 2026 | Price for motorcyclists |
|---|---|---|---|
| Addax Rally, Morocco | Desert race with sand, dunes and stony tracks. PRO offers shorter distances than ELITE; the rating depends on the class. | 6 event days · 25.–30.10. | €3,500 early / €3,700 later price tier, the latter until 05.10. Source |
| Dinaric Rally, Croatia | Rally raid in the Dinaric Alps; long daily stages and a two-day marathon without external assistance. | 7 core days · 22.–28.08.; prologue + 5 stages; bivouac from 21.08. | €1,320 / €1,468.50 / €1,630 depending on booking phase. Source |
| Hellas Rally, Greece | Rally week with roadbook navigation and a marathon section; the race class is meant here, not Adventure Raid. | 7 race days · 25.–31.05.; scrutineering already 22.–24.05. | €1,500 / €1,600 / €1,700, late €2,000; moto/quad rates 2026. Source |
| Greece Rally, Greece | Roadbook race around Serres with a marathon section and several days of around 300 km. | 7 race days · 20.–26.09.; scrutineering 19.09. | €1,300–1,700; regular €1,400 according to the indexed 2026 version, see source note. Source |
| 1000 Dunas – Rally / Dakar, Morocco | Navigation raid; the organiser describes these two categories as difficult. Rocket and Classics are listed as entry level and do not belong in the same difficulty level. | 8 programme days / 6 stages · 17.–24.10. | Rally €3,700, Dakar €4,000; other categories from €3,100, relay 60–100. Source |
| Rally Albania, Albania | Multi-day competition with changing bivouacs; high demands on endurance and organisation. Rally Albania is meant, not Albania Raid. | 8 programme days · 06.–13.06.; prologue, 6 stages and epilogue according to the 2026 plan | Historical 2026 motorcycle price not sufficiently verified. Source |
| Fenix Rally, Tunisia | Desert race on sand, dunes and gravel; long commitment to the event and correspondingly demanding logistics. | 9 days · 23.–31.10.; announced: prologue, 7 stages and rest day | €3,590 standard rate until 05.09. Source |
Level 5: Particularly High Marathon and Endurance Demands
| Event | Characteristics and difficulty | Duration and date 2026 | Price for motorcyclists |
|---|---|---|---|
| RoRallyMarathon, Romania | Pronounced marathon format: a two-day marathon and a special stage of around 550 km, the Baja 555, in the participant schedule. The Adventure class is to be considered separately. | 9 programme days · 10.–18.07.; scrutineering, prologue and 7 special-stage days including epilogue | €999 / €1,250 / €1,500 / €1,700 depending on booking phase; tracking extra. Source |
Assessment: The levels describe overall difficulty, not a claimed ranking of every individual route. Bosnia can be technically more demanding than some race sections. For RoRallyMarathon, it is in particular the extreme daily distance that justifies the highest level. A race class does not become easier because a tourist class is offered alongside it.
Which Characteristics Suit Which Learning Goal?
- Understanding the roadbook: Blue Day, Mecklenburg or EutichesBook allow navigation without a full international race week. The length of the route should still be borne in mind.
- Consolidating off-road navigation over several days: Bosnia and Swank Experience combine repeated riding days with less pressure to achieve results. Bosnia already requires confident enduro riding.
- Getting to know race procedures: Baja Europe offers a compact format; Swank Rally, Breslau and Sandalion extend the duration and strain.
- Developing rally endurance and self-management: Dinaric, Hellas, Greece and Albania demand a whole week of navigation, maintenance and recovery. RoRallyMarathon sets a particularly high standard for daily distances.
- Practising sand and dunes: Addax, Fenix and the appropriate 1000 Dunas category bring desert experience. The choice of the shorter or tourist class must be checked separately.
This allocation is an editorial deduction from the event formats. It describes possible learning steps, not a prescribed training path.

The New Cost Benchmarks in Detail
Blue Day and EutichesBook: €59 for Blue Day shows how low the pure entry fee for a one-day orientation ride can be. EutichesBook costs €165 for two off-road days; travel and overnight stays nevertheless do not make it a €165 trip. For the separate OnRoad variant, €75 for 300 km or €95 for 500 km has been published. Registration for Alcañiz is already closed on the organiser’s website. Blue Day · EutichesBook
Bosnia: On top of the regular entry of €920 come, for example, €120 for camping or €290 for six nights in a double room with breakfast. That gives €1,040 with camping or €1,210 with a hotel before travel, fuel and further meals. The rental motorcycle including navigation costs an additional €1,890; the navigation alone can be rented for €390. Bosnia prices
Baja Europe: €550 for rider and motorcycle is a concrete comparison value for a short race format. Tracking and navigation device rental are included; mounting kit, accommodation and meals are not. An additional person costs €70, an additional vehicle €50. This is access for your own support crew, not a purchased mechanic service. Baja Europe prices
Swank: The standard price of €1,700 already includes the return ferry with motorcycle and shared cabin as well as two hotel nights with half board. The published list of extras states €70 transponder rental and a €200 refundable deposit. The scope of the package explains part of the difference from pure entry fees. Swank services
Dinaric and RoRallyMarathon: At Dinaric, tracking and overnighting in your own tent or camper in the bivouac are included. RoRallyMarathon lists €1,500 as the regular fee, but with a Stella unit to be rented separately; the participant guide leaves its rental price open and mentions an accessory package for first-time users at €100. A seemingly cheap marathon also needs a realistic budget for tyres, wear and support. Dinaric · RoRallyMarathon
Sandalion: With the entry fee of €1,500 still listed on 6 October and €200 compulsory tracking, the documented subtotal is €1,700. Ferry, accommodation, meals, navigation device and technical assistance come on top. Sandalion fees
Hellas, Greece and Albania: For Hellas, a table of the race classes expressly dated 2026 is still available on the official Adventure subpage. Greece can be reconstructed from the indexed 2026 version of the official fees page; the live page now lists 2027 periods. For 2026, an additional €150 tracking rental was listed there. For Albania, the old fees page already redirects to 2027; a sufficiently documented 2026 motorcycle price is therefore deliberately left open. This gap must not be filled with a price from the following year. Hellas · Greece · Albania
Roadbook Entry: What €690 Actually Covers
For €690, the Roadbooktour Mecklenburg offers three nights in a double room with half board, roadbooks, briefing, guide and technical support. With a rented Yamaha WR250R for €330, the total is €1,020; an optional roadbook holder for €20 raises this subtotal to €1,040. Travel, fuel, lunch and drinks come on top.
The three advertised dates in spring, summer and early October 2026 have now passed. The offer remains interesting as a year-on-year comparison: it shows what organised access to roadbook riding can cost. The organiser expressly describes relaxed enduro touring – neither race training nor Dakar qualification should be inferred from that. [1]
Breslau and Fenix: Compare What Is Included, Not the Entry Fee
Rallye Breslau 2026 provides a European racing benchmark. The enduro standard rate was €1,500. Included were, among other things, the prologue and five rally days, catering, tracking rental, digital roadbooks and medical care. Hotel, travel, fuel and personal accident insurance were not included; the service crew also incurred its own fees.
A worked example from the published fee list: rider €1,500, one service person €500 and a service vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes €190 add up to €2,190 in event fees. That is not yet a total budget: vehicle running costs, materials and the work of the support crew are missing from it. [2]
At Fenix Rally 2026, the enduro standard rate was €3,590. The package included hotel accommodation in a shared room according to the programme, meals on rally days, medical care and rental devices for tracking, digital roadbook and navigation. One important detail: the price page expressly names the separately purchased IRIS mounting kit as an exception. Items like this show why a higher entry fee does not automatically mean a more expensive overall trip. [3]
Addax: Keeping Entry and Supported Package Clearly Apart
The Addax Rally from 25 to 30 October 2026 most recently lists €3,700 for motorcycles. This price tier ended on 5 October. Included are, among other things, accommodation in a shared room with half board, roadbook, Stella tracking rental and medical services. Fuel, tyres, spare parts, vehicle repatriation and the mounting equipment for the tracking device are therefore not automatically paid for. [4]
The offer from Ténéré Spirit Experience starts at a different point: €7,900 is listed for “Racing + Assistance” including entry, support, motorcycle transport and hotel with half board. The Addax entry fee must therefore not be added again separately. The rider’s travel is not included.
Alongside this is €12,000 for “Ténéré 700 GYTR Rental”. The presentation does not make clear whether this is a rental amount payable in addition or a more comprehensive package price. A total of €19,700 would therefore not be reliable without written clarification. Before any calculation, rental period, deposit, damage and included consumables must also be clear from the specific offer. [8]
1000 Dunas: Assistance Is Not Automatically a Mechanic Package
The name “Dakar” at 1000 Dunas is merely a category name of this event, not an entry to the Dakar Rally.
Accommodation, half board and general technical service are part of the basic offer. A personal mechanic, Stella rental and motorcycle transport to Morocco are therefore not covered. [5]
The Extras page lists €300 for material transport during the event: two defined equipment boxes, two tyres and one bag of up to 80 litres. This is not a transport price for the motorcycle from home to Morocco. [6]
The wording “Assistance €900” is particularly important: the detail page describes the registration of your own accompanying or service personnel. It lists €900 per person plus vehicle fees: €100 for an off-road vehicle, €200 for a van or €300 for a lorry. No mechanic package supplied by the organiser for €900 can be derived from this. [7]
The general Extras pages also contain older schedule information, while the main page describes the 2026 programme. These additional prices are therefore published reference points whose validity and scope for 2026 must be confirmed before booking.
How an Entry Fee Becomes a Workable Budget
For the next instalments of this series, we separate six cost blocks. This makes it possible to compare offers without counting included services twice or overlooking important expenses:
- Event: Entry, required licences and insurance, navigation, tracking and, where applicable, mounting kits.
- Motorcycle: Purchase or rental, preparation, maintenance and the actual loss in value of your own vehicle.
- Consumables and repairs: Tyres, mousse, fuel, spare parts and damage, unless expressly included.
- Travel and logistics: The rider’s travel, motorcycle transport, ferry, overnight stays outside the package and material transport.
- Support: Mechanic services as well as registration, travel and vehicle costs of your own service team.
- Reserve and liquidity: Unplanned repairs and the return journey; deposits should also be shown as money temporarily tied up.
The expanded comparison shows that an entry into roadbook riding can be organised on a much smaller scale than a multi-day rally with support. How expensive your own path becomes, however, is only decided by the full scope of services and by how many events, training sessions and conversions are actually needed. That is exactly where “What Does the Road to Dakar Really Cost?” comes in: with traceable individual items instead of a seemingly universal total.
